Ben Edgar
Jim's world class skills as a guitar luthier and technician put him
in a league of his own. Jim has a deep understanding of both electric
and acoustic guitars, and takes the time to discover the unique
stylistic requirements and playing style of his clients in order to
achieve the perfect setup with no compromise. It's nice to that Jim
cares about the playability and tone of my instruments as much as I
do!!"

Jim's making great guitars. They look good, sound good, and are really player friendly.
An overall attention to detail.
I found the "Brazilian Rosewood guitar" to have a lovely balanced sound and very nice projection.
It responded well to the unique demands of fingerpicking and I was able to draw from it a wide expressive range and a variety of tones.
They're the things I look for most in a guitar and the Matheas had it !

Janet and myself have been fans of Jim's for years. He listens to our feedback regarding work to be carried out on our instruments with refreshing enthusiasm and always has plenty of supportive and constructive suggestions.
We keep coming back because we find the quality of his work on our 'axes of passion' to be beyond our expectations.
The most logical explanation for this consistency of excellence, would have to be put down to the fact that Jim loves his work and is utterly passionate about doing justice to artists and their instruments.
Cheers to that!
I'm proud to say that in 2004 the band had our first number 1 in Australia . Our guitars were treated with Jim's loving expertise just weeks before the album was recorded. I'm not saying that Jim's work will guarantee anybody a #1, I'm saying that Jim's work IS number 1!
Know what I'm sayin'?
Cheers Jim!

Before we took our guitars to Jim, recording was a nightmare. We just couldn't get the guitars in tune with themselves, especially when we began to layer the tracks.
Jims work is First Class!
His attention to detail and knowledge of the guitar is awesome.
We love you Jim and highly recommend him to anyone! |

Jim Matheas is a master craftsman who understands the many facets of
guitar building, setting-up and playing. He sets up guitars for
optimum performance according to your playing style, preferences and
characteristics of the instrument. Jim did a beautiful job installing a
Bartolini pickup on my Carson-Crickmore arch-top and re-doing the neck
for optimum playability. He has since worked on most of my guitars,
radically improving playability, evenness and tone.

Subject: Cole Clarks guitars
Hi Jim,
Firstly I must admit, I honestly didn't think that spending much on the two Cole Clarks I had would do any good. And thankfully, you have proven me wrong.
I just plugged the tele in at work, and all I can say is WOW! I'm hearing tones that I never imagined would be obtained from this guitar. The front and middle settings have come alive! I'm getting amazing rhythm sounds that simply weren't there prior to set-up.
As for the acoustic - man that thing sounds like a totally different guitar now....can't wait to record it.
From this point on I will be recommending your services to anyone who wants to have a guitar sound the way it should! In tune, balanced and tonefull.
Thankyou!
Chris

Subject: Feedback
Hi Jim,
Just thought I'd drop you a line to say thanks for the work you did to my Rickenbacker last week. The workmanship was second to none and it has given my guitar a new lease of life.
As you will remember, I was very concerned about who I could entrust my favourite guitar and after some searching and recommendation I was given your details.
Any concerns I had, disappeared after our first appointment and I was most impressed that you actually do arrange times with clients so as to make appointments unrushed.
You have been a pleasure to deal with and as I mentioned on Monday I will be bringing my other guitars to you progressively for attention.
All the best for the future, and keep up the good work.
Kind regards
Duncan Stewart

David Bains
I'm a bit of a guitar collector, mainly interested in European 1960's items like Burns, Watkins, Selmer, Hagstrom etc. but anything a little odd is of interest.
Over the past few years I've been presenting Jim with strange old rescued relics which need repair, or respray or electrical work and never of course any makers recommendations or wiring diagrams.
Jim's always managed the task, no ter what and done it in what I'd call a "Craftman" fashion, as opposed to just getting it done.
From excellent refinishes to perfect intonation on items that weren't exactly perfect in the first place, Jim's always given a sensible number of options along with good esties of cost and has always come back to me if anything wasn't in line with what we'd agreed.
I'm very happy to recommend Jim's skills and enthusiasm to anyone.
Yours Sincerely,
David Bains |
